Session history

Session history lets Harriet search past conversations in the current workspace, including scheduled and triggered runs. It is off by default and is available only in chats you start, after the workspace owner turns it on.

Turn on session history

  1. Open a workspace you own. Use Harriet Desktop or the web.
  2. Go to Settings → Workspace → Session history. The setting applies to this workspace only.
  3. Turn on Read past conversations. You can turn it off again at any time.

The switch applies to this workspace only. It is separate from Memory: remembering useful facts across sessions does not grant access to full past conversations. Turning history off stops these search and read tools; it does not delete conversations.

Ask about past work

Start a chat and ask, for example, “Which new starters did the onboarding task contact in July?” or “Find the run that posted last week's update.” Harriet can search text and recorded tool activity, then open the relevant conversation for more context. Narrow your request by date, task name or person when there is a lot of history.

Results refer to the conversation and recorded action. A tool call alone does not prove delivery succeeded. Check the recorded outcome, particularly when a run stopped, failed or was awaiting approval.

Who can use it?

Only the owner can change the switch, and only the owner's own chats can use history, including in shared cloud workspaces. Scheduled tasks, triggered tasks, Run now, messaging channels and collaborator requests cannot use it. A conversation may contain an automated run or a collaborator's request; your own subsequent chat can use history when the switch is on.

Slash commands and messages containing only attachments currently cannot use history. Send an ordinary text message to ask about a past run. See Cloud workspaces for sharing controls.

Privacy and incomplete results

History is limited to the current workspace. Harriet hides internal helper conversations, memory tool details, private configuration and credential-file activity, and known secret patterns. These filters reduce exposure but cannot recognise every sensitive fact in ordinary conversation text. Past messages are treated as evidence, not instructions or new permission to act.

Large searches have time, session and output limits. Harriet reports when a scan is incomplete; narrow the dates or search phrase and request another page. Conversation retention and missing tool results can also limit what Harriet can establish.

On Desktop and cloud workspaces, this switch governs Harriet's history tools. It is not a security boundary against software with direct access to workspace files. For older workflow-editor runs, an admin can enable the separate Workflow run reports skill.
