Claude Team vs Claude Enterprise

Price, seat limits, usage, admin controls and compliance, checked against Anthropic’s own pricing and support pages in September 2026. Plus the three walls Team customers hit, and what to do at each one.

Which plan should a growing company be on?

Claude Team and Claude Enterprise are the same product for the person typing, with different commercial shapes around it. Team is a flat seat price, $20 to $25 a month for a standard seat or $100 to $125 for a premium seat with more usage, sold from 2 seats up to a hard cap of 150, on a monthly or annual plan. Enterprise is $20 per seat a month, billed annually, with every token your people use billed on top at API rates. It starts at 20 seats self-serve or 50 through sales, and it adds the controls Team leaves out: audit logs, SCIM provisioning, a Compliance API, custom data retention and IP allowlisting. Most companies land on Team first and then hit one of three walls: the 150-seat cap, a security review that asks for audit logs, or heavy users who burn through the usage allowance. That is the moment to compare Enterprise with an independent alternative rather than upgrade by default.

Claude Team and Claude Enterprise, fact by fact

From Anthropic’s pricing page and support articles, September 2026. Prices in US dollars as published. Where Anthropic does not list a feature for a plan, the table says so rather than guessing.

Fact Claude Team Claude Enterprise
Seat price $20 a month for a standard seat billed annually, $25 monthly. Premium seats $100 annually, $125 monthly. $20 a seat a month, billed annually, plus usage.
What usage costs Included. A standard seat gets 1.25x the Pro allowance per session, a premium seat 6.25x. Every token in Chat, Claude Code or Cowork billed at standard API rates on top of the seat fee.
Seats Minimum 2, maximum 150. Minimum 20 self-serve, 50 sales-assisted. No published maximum.
Billing Monthly or annual. Annual only.
Identity and access SSO, domain capture, just-in-time provisioning, role-based permissions. Everything in Team plus SCIM provisioning and fine-grained role permissions.
Audit and compliance Not listed. Audit logs, Compliance API, custom data retention, IP allowlisting, HIPAA-ready offering.
Spend controls Central billing and admin. Admins set user and organisation spend limits.
Models you can govern Claude only. Claude only.

The last row is the one that matters most and gets read least. Both plans govern Claude and nothing else. The day a team wants a second vendor, it is a second contract, a second console and a second bill.

The three walls Team customers hit

Almost nobody leaves Claude Team because they want to. They leave because one of these happens.

01

The 150-seat cap

Team stops at 150 seats. Anthropic’s own guidance is to move to Enterprise at that point, which changes the billing model from a flat seat price to seat plus metered usage, on an annual contract.

02

The security review

Team has SSO and role-based permissions but no audit logs, no SCIM and no retention controls. The first serious security questionnaire usually ends the Team plan whatever the seat count.

03

The heavy users

A standard seat carries 1.25x the Pro allowance. People who live in Claude all day need premium seats at five times the price, or metered usage on Enterprise. Either way the bill stops being predictable.

Pick each one when

A straight recommendation. Both Anthropic plans are a reasonable buy for the right company.

The Claude Enterprise alternative
  • Stay on Claude Team if you are under 150 people, only want Claude, nobody has asked for audit logs yet, and a flat monthly seat price with usage included is worth more to you than metered billing.
  • Move to Claude Enterprise if you need Anthropic’s deepest compliance surface, such as the Compliance API, customer-managed keys or the HIPAA-ready offering, and an annual direct contract with Anthropic is a deliberate choice.
  • Keep Claude and skip the upgrade if you hit a wall but do not want an annual single-vendor contract. Harriet keeps Claude for everyone, adds the audit trail and spend caps, has no seat minimum, and lets each team use other models where they work better.

Questions teams askbefore upgrading

What is the difference between Claude Team and Claude Enterprise?

The models and the app are the same. Team is a flat seat price from 2 to 150 seats with usage included, on monthly or annual billing. Enterprise is $20 a seat a month billed annually with usage metered on top at API rates, from 20 seats, and it adds audit logs, SCIM, a Compliance API, custom data retention and IP allowlisting. Facts from Anthropic’s pricing and support pages, September 2026.

How much does Claude Team cost?

A standard seat is $20 a month billed annually or $25 billed monthly. A premium seat, with 6.25x the Pro usage allowance instead of 1.25x, is $100 a month billed annually or $125 monthly. Seat types can be mixed. A team of 20 on standard seats pays $400 to $500 a month with usage included.

How much does Claude Enterprise cost?

Anthropic publishes $20 per seat a month, billed annually, with usage billed separately at standard API rates. The 20-seat self-serve minimum means at least $400 a month in seat fees before anyone sends a message, and the usage line is the part that scales. Larger deals go through sales from 50 seats.

What is the minimum number of seats for Claude Enterprise?

20 seats if you buy self-serve, 50 if you buy through Anthropic’s sales team, as of September 2026. Claude Team starts at 2 seats and stops at 150.

Does Claude Team have audit logs?

No. Audit logs, SCIM provisioning, the Compliance API and custom data retention controls are listed under Claude Enterprise only. Team includes SSO, domain capture, just-in-time provisioning and role-based permissions.

Can you upgrade from Claude Team to Claude Enterprise?

Yes. Anthropic documents a migration from Team to Enterprise, and recommends it when you need more than 150 seats. It moves you onto an annual contract with metered usage. Before you do, it is worth pricing the alternative: keeping Claude for everyone through an independent platform with no seat minimum, monthly billing, hard budget caps and the audit trail the security review asked for.

What is the alternative to upgrading to Claude Enterprise?

Harriet. Your people keep Claude, and can use ChatGPT, Gemini and open models alongside it, EU or US hosted. IT provisions the desktop assistant to every device, sets which models each team can use, caps spend per team and per user, and audits every action down to the tool call. Pricing is quoted per organisation with no seat minimum and no annual commitment, and we build the first skills with your team so the rollout works.
